Weaving SAORI style

A beginner's weaving experience with the SAORI weaving loom.

Long and Short Vests

I think that vests are great for the Cuenca weather. We heard that you can experience all four seasons in a day in Cuenca and I figured that was an exaggeration, but it is True! Sometimes it gets cloudy and very cold, spits a little rain and by the time you get your umbrella open it is warm sun again. Perfect weather for a vest!

This is my Blue Jean Jacket. The body is woven in a Sakiori style using strips of old blue jeans mixed with cotton and wool threads. The top yoke of the vest is the same thread without the blue jeans. The pocket is from an old pair of jeans and the wood buttons were made for me by a Cuencan artist named Jaime Torres.

This is the back of the Blue Jean Jacket. The woman who bought this is going to move the side buttons in to make it more shapely. That was an easy fix and spurred me to think more about adjustable clothes.

This vest jacket is so cozy and the collar stands up to keep the neck warm. I love it. Tagua nut buttons by Jaime Torres.

This is the back of the cozy vest. I think of it as simple elegance in design.

I asked the cute waitresses at the Wunderbar above our apartment to model my short vests. This is Maria Belen in one of two vests made from the same fabric. This one has Coconut buttons made by Jaime Torres for me.

Johaneely looks cute in this little vest. There is long decorative stitching along the edges and down the back of the vest. The tagua nut buttons were made for me by Jaime Torres.
