Weaving SAORI style

A beginner's weaving experience with the SAORI weaving loom.

Bags Bags Bags

I decided to use up all the left over threads and fabrics from recent projects. Here are the results...a bunch of bags!

This is the most complex of the bags I made. I added that strip of my wool cushions between the acrylic panels and around the top of the bag for visual interest. The bag has a twisted cord closure as well as a big twisted strap. Inside it is lined with black cotton. I went wild with adding white pockets inside thinking that would make them easier to see which it does but i think the same effect could be made with a less contrasty color combination. And I learned that if you put the pocket too low it has the same effect as digging to the bottom of the purse for small items. I love the wooden button and fringe effect.

I dyed the blue and red threads in a shibori resist which gives a speckled effect and added some raw wool for texture. My friend Rommie suggested rounding the bottom of the bag which I agree looks great.

Then I took the bag to a leather shop where Giovanny made the strap, bound the top edges and added the closure for me. I found the carved tagua nut button at a shop in town. I really like the final result!

I love the greens in this bag and the commercial leather strap works well with the black fringe warp. This bag is lined with white cotton and has one pocket inside. The closure is a twisted black and white cord with a white pearly button.

I love the contrast between the burgundy and lime green in this bag. The commercial strap is a black woven style. This bag is lined in black with one side pocket. The closure is a twisted cord and black button.

This is the second bag from the wall hanging. One side has a white background and the other side is gray like the first bag. This one has the strap going down the sides of the bag. It is lined in cream cotton but it doesn't have inside pockets or a closure.

This small bag has a little pocket inside and a twisted cord strap. The turquoise warp fringe adds a fun color contrast.

There are two small bags in this style where I used the pompom thread to make the twisted cord strap.
