Weaving SAORI style

A beginner's weaving experience with the SAORI weaving loom.

My first Sakiori

I used some strips of an old indigo colored cotton caftan and wove them into my Saori warp. I'm pleased with the results even though the warp was very warped. My husband likes the warped places and reminded me that the Saori attitude is that creativity and individuality are what shows through those so-called 'mistakes'.

I ran out of strips pretty fast. I didn't realize how much they would compress in the beating. So then I chose other colors that I hoped would go with the original blue/white warp idea. I like the results.

Now i'm in the phase of making a muslin sample before I cut my precious cloth. It looks like I only have enough for a vest of the sakiori part but that would be a good use of this slightly more stiff cloth than the plain weaving. I'm thinking I can use the green/orange/blue soft cloth for decoration on the blue vest.

More to come.........
